Jeez, you can tell this lady's on her period.
Fictional CEO of Bodyform, Caroline Williams, has responded to a Facebook rant, which went viral last week, that complained her company's adverts 'mislead' men about what happens to women's behaviour during their periods.
Richard Neill complained that Bodyform's advertising led him to believe his girlfriend's period would be a 'joyous adventure', but after experiencing their first 'time of the month' together the illusion came crashing down.
His rant against adverts that depict women roller skating, sky diving and dancing in skimpy pink dresses, has already clocked up over 83,000 likes.
The company has since responded with a tongue-in-cheek YouTube video called the “The Truth”.
The response is, in HuffPost UK Lifestyle’s humble opinion, much funnier than the post itself. 1-0 Bodyform.
The video description reads:
Hi Richard. We loved your post on our Facebook page. We are always grateful for input from our users, but your comment was particularly poignant. If Facebook had a "love" button, we'd have clicked it. But it doesn't. So we've made you a video instead. Unfortunately Bodyform doesn't have a CEO. But if it did she'd be called Caroline Williams. And she'd say this.
“We lied to you Richard and we want to say 'sorry'. 'Sorry'," says Caroline. "What you’ve seen in our advertisements so far isn’t a factual representation of events, you’re right. The flagrant use of visualisation such as skydiving, rollerblading and mountain biking - you forgot horse riding, Richard - are actually metaphors, they’re not real.”
She adds gravely: “There’s no such thing as a happy period.”
Caroline walks through the office explaining that Bodyform chose to portray periods in such a positive manner to protect men from the truth about women's bodies. She casually, and comically, rounds her explanation off with some flatulence. Just to come clean to Richard, and men everywhere, about some of the other things women's bodies do.
For this response Bodyform deserve a standing ovation.
Richard’s post got us thinking back to how many sports women have enjoyed, courtesy of sanitary towels -- and we've pulled them together in the slideshow below...
