El Hadji Diouf Claims Steven Gerrard Was 'Jealous' Of Him At Liverpool

'Gerrard Was Jealous Of Me' - Diouf Slams Ex-Reds Team-Mate

El Hadji Diouf has claimed Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is jealous of him and that former Reds players "can't stand" the midfielder.

Diouf played two seasons at Anfield after he joined from Lens for £10m in 2002 having impressed at the Japan and South Korea World Cup. But he was a major disappointment at Anfield, with his infamous spitting incident at Celtic Park his first major discretion in British football.

Diouf and Gerrard notably clashed when he was at Blackburn Rovers in 2010, and the Senegal international has now accused his former team-mate of selfishness.

Diouf and Gerrard exchange views in 2010

"Gerrard was jealous of me back then as I had the world at my feet. There's no one more selfish, he doesn't care about anyone else," the Senegalese told l'Équipe.

"Gerrard would rather Liverpool lost and he scored. The old Liverpool guys can't stand him. I won't even start with Carragher."

Whether Diouf is referring to Carragher not being able to stand Gerrard or that he could not stand him is not clarified.

Now playing for Leeds United, the cocksure 31-year-old predicted a fond legacy if he succeeds with the Whites.

"If El Hadji Diouf takes Leeds up to the Premier League, he will become unforgettable in England," he said of himself.
