Russell Crowe might be playing Noah in the big screen adaption of the biblical story but we reckon he could pull off another legendary character with his new look.

With his bushy beard and specs, the 48-year-old actor looked a dead ringer for Jim Royle of the 'The Royle Family' as he took a bike ride in New York.

Somehow we doubt Jim would be quite so energetic but there's no denying the similarities between Russ and the TV character played by Ricky Tomlinson in the hit comedy.

The 'Gladiators' star has thrown himself into work after splitting from his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer, earlier this month.

The couple - who tied the knot on Russell's Aussie farm in 2003 - are said to be on amicable terms following the breakdown of their marriage, which insiders are blaming on the star's workload.
