Apple Announces Executive Shake-Up: iOS Chief Scott Forstall And Retail Head John Browett Out

Apple CEO Ousts Heads Of iOS And Retail

Apple has announced a huge reorganisation of its executive team.

The head of iOS Scott Forstall will leave the company in 2013, while the head of retail John Browett will step down immediately.

Forstall, who will remain, "as an advisor to CEO Tim Cook" until next year, was the executive ultimately responsible for Apple's transition to its own Maps service recently, widely seen as the company's worst failure for several years. He has been at Apple for more than 15 years.

John Browett, who was formerly head of Dixons, had been at the company for less than a year. He was criticised in the summer after it emerged he had tried to lead cuts of Apple retail store staff - a move that was eventually reversed.

After Forstall's departure, head of design Jony Ive will take up more responsibility for 'human interface' across the entire company. The change is widely seen as Ive's chance to lead software design at the company as well as product design.

Eddie Cue, who runs Apple's digital stores, will also be responsible for Maps and Siri - bringing Apple's internet services under one exec.

Other execs Bob Mansfield and Craig Federighi will also take on more responsibilities after the changes.
