This stunning sunrise series has a story behind it almost as beautiful to contemplate as the photographs themselves.
Over four years, self-taught photographer Yu Yamauchi spent five month at a time living in a tiny hut at the summit of Mt. Fuji in Japan, rising in the dark to capture the world waking up before him.
As stories of artistic solitude and oneness with nature go, it takes some beating - at 10,000 feet above sea level, Yamauchi was higher in the world than anyone else in Japan, in a place he described to Feature Shoot as "between the earth and the universe".

The resultant project, Dawn, was recently exhibited at Miyako Yoshinaga gallery in New York. Despite being taken from the same exact spot, every photo in the series is different. The infinite colours, tones and moods that can be found in the sky are beautifully captured.
"Being there simply reminded me of the fact that we live on the earth, which is a planet within an infinite space in the universe" wrote the 35-year-old.
Sounds like life at that altitude gives you plenty of time to ponder - not to mention photograph - the bigger things in life, a thought that's going to make getting on the Tube this evening just that little bit harder.
