Tony Blair Asked If Mitt Romney Would 'Set Back Peace In The Middle East'

Tony Blair has refused to be drawn on whether he would like to see Barack Obama or Mitt Romney win Tuesday's US presidential election.

Asked by ITV News' whether a Romney presidency would "set back the cause of peace in the Middle East" , the former prime minister said he thought it best if he did not answer.

"One of the great things about having left office is that I no longer have to answer all the questions," he said.

"And I don't really want to answer the one of the American presidential election, I think that would indicate a certain lack of diplomatic sensitivity."

Blair was quizzed on the US election after giving a speech urging British companies pour investments into Iraq.

The Middle East peace envoy also refused to answer questions on whether he agreed with current Labour leader Ed Miliband's decision to vote with Tory rebels against the government over the EU budget.
