Bradford City have been "removed" from the FA Cup by the Football Association after they fielded an ineligible player in their second-round tie against Brentford.
The Bantams did not have the "necessary written permission" to field Curtis Good, on loan from Newcastle United, in the competition by the 12pm deadline last Friday prior to the evening's fixture.
Should the League One club choose not to appeal, or if any appeal is unsuccessful, Brentford will be given a bye and play either Bury or Southend United in the third-round next month.
Bradford said in a statement: "We are clearly disappointed by this decision and cannot comment further on this matter as the club is still actively conducting a full investigation."
League Two Bradford drew 1-1 with their League 1 counterparts at Valley Parade, a match in which Good completed 90 minutes. James Hanson's second-half strike earned Bradford a replay after he cancelled out Clayton Donaldson's opener.
In 2000 Sunderland were unsuccessful in their bid to be re-entered into the competition after a 1-0 loss at Tranmere Rovers ended in farce.
Referee Rob Harris allowed the Merseyside club to defend a Sunderland free-kick with 11 men despite having had a player sent off.
