Didier Drogba Gives Ex-Chelsea Team-Mates Champions League Rings (PICTURES)

Look What Drogba Gave His Ex-Chelsea Team-Mates

Didier Drogba hosted an £800,000 celebratory dinner to commemorate Chelsea's Champions League win this year, presenting his former team-mates with rings to symbolise their victory over Bayern Munich.

Although it will not have lifted the gloom which hovers over Stamford Bridge in light of their exit from the competition at the group stage, the return of Drogba - training with the club ahead of the African Cup of Nations - will have generated some nostalgia among disillusioned supporters and team-mates.

Roberto di Matteo, who oversaw the club's hegemony in May, was not present having been sacked by the Blues a fortnight ago to be replaced by the beleaguered interim manager Rafael Benítez and a number of players part of the matchday squad for the Munich final also did not attend.

Fernando Torres, Petr Čech and Juan Mata were notable absentees at the Wyndham Grand Chelsea Harbour hotel, although the squad travel to Sunderland today ahead of their Premier League fixture on Saturday.

Drogba said at the dinner: "I wanted to give something to the team so we can all look back and remember that achievement." He then singled out club captain John Terry, who was in attendance. "You're my hero and everyone at Chelsea loves you."
