Facebook's Top Trends 2012: OIympics, 50 Shades Of Grey, Rylan Clark And Alton Towers

Facebook Says Top Trending Event Of The Year Was The Olympics

Just as Google has picked Tuesday to unveil its 'zeitgeist' list of the top searches of 2012, and Twitter has celebrated its top Tweets of the year, Facebook has got in on the action too.

In its list of the top Facebook trends of 2012, provided in a press release, the social network said that the number one talked about event of the year was..

... the Olympics. Though that was before a monkey in a coat went to Ikea, so that may have changed since.

The quadrennial sports day was followed by the novel 50 Shades of Grey, X Factor loser Rylan Clark, the death of Whitney Houston and the Diamond Jubilee.

Facebook also announced that the most check-ins were recorded at theme parks - Alton Towers and Thorpe Park - and that the most listened to song was that one that sounds like The Police, but isn't.
