It's hard to imagine when it was invented on this day 109 years ago that the ice cream cone would become the trusted weapon of choice for politicians.
When whipped into a frenzy of vote hunting it seems the political elite mysteriously turn to the trusted crunchy cone to provide them with that down-to-earth, 'yeah, I'm a normal guy who eats ice cream too' picture.
So in honour of Italo Marcione who, on 13 December 1903, transformed political electioneering forever by patenting the ice cream cone in New York, here's some textbook examples of when the cone has been expertly used for political gain.
