Death Star Petition Succeeds: White House Official To Respond After 25,000 Demand Killer Space Station

'Build A Death Star, Mr President'

An American citizen's petition for President Obama to build a working Death Star has reached the required total for an official response.

The proposal to build an inter-stellar space station with unimaginable destructive power passed the needed 25,000 signatures on Thursday.

It will now be eligible for an official response from the White House, who are expected to politely decline the opportunity to build and wield a moon-sized laser capable of destroying planets at will.

As of press time more than 27,000 people had signed the petition, whose official wording is:

"We petition the Obama administration to:

Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.

By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense."

But the chances of the petition being accepted may be in jeapardy, after it emerged several fictional characters had signed.

They included a mysterious Mr Darth V, who listed his location as "Imperial Battlecruiser".

Earlier this year it was calculated that the Death Star would cost more than £541 trillion just for the raw materials - or 13,000 times the gross domestic product of the Earth.
