Wii U Needs Three Hours Of Updates Before It Can Be Used

Millions of children face misery this Christmas morning after the makers of a new games console admitted it needs three hours worth of updates before it can be used.

The Nintendo Wii U is the must-have new gaming system but a vital system update will take up to three hours to download and install.

Japanese company Nintendo has acknowledged the issue in a tweet from their official American wing - suggesting parents install the update before wrapping.

They wrote: "Giving #WiiU as a gift? Pro-tip: Perform system updates before wrapping so it's good to go as soon as it's opened!"

Boss of Nintendo America Reggie Fils-Aime said: "Nintendo developers want to make sure that the very best product is available to consumers.

"That creates a dynamic where our developers are working on elements until the very last point possible.

"That's why the system update was required on Day One - and this is quite similar to what's happened with other consumer electronic products."

The console was released on November 30 but required the hefty update as soon as it went on sale.
