The Christmas drizzle may be grey and depressing but spare a thought for our American cousins who are dealing with a deadly snow storm that is causing havoc.

Six people are reported to have been killed in the Midwest after the storm created 34 tornadoes, felling trees and causing treacherous driving conditions.

It is now headed east with 18 inches of snow forecast for Thursday, reports Sky News.

Arkansas has seen a record amount of snow

Mississippi and Alabama declared a state of emergency after 200,000 people were left without power.

More than 1,600 flights have been cancelled.

According to the BBC, seven inches of snow caused a 21 vehicle pile-up on an Oklahoma City highway.
