Could David Beckham Be Off To China?

After weeks of speculation David Beckham could be set to announce a move to China after being offered a huge pay packet to play for an Asian team.

Speculation has been rife about where the former England captain will decide to end his football career following his departure from LA Galaxy and his claims that he wants one last challenge before he hangs up his boots for good.

Although teams in France had been discussed and wife Victoria had been spotted looking at schools in London for their children, it is now rumoured he could be planning to move to the Far East as it emerges he is in talks with Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua.

According to The People, Becks is currently looking at signing a one year contract with the club, which will see him net £250,000 a week. And through further branding and merchandising, he and Victoria could make a further £20m.

The appeal of China has already attracted other top players, including Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, who would be David's team-mates.

A source told the newspaper: "It is also appealing to Becks as it is very different to anywhere he has played before and he is keen to promote football in places where it isn’t particularly high-profile."

However, the couple are unlikely to move out to live in China full time, with Victoria still planning on moving to London with their children. Instead, David will have to travel on an 11-hour flight from the UK to Shanghai whenever he has a match.
