Manchester United maintained their seven-point lead at the Premier League summit with their sixth 4-0 win against Wigan in just over seven years.

Javier Hernández and Robin van Persie both hit a brace while second-placed Manchester City eased past Stoke in a 3-0 win at Eastlands. A 43rd minute Pablo Zabaleta effort gave the champions a half-time lead before Edin Džeko hit his third in two games and Sergio Agüero converted a penalty.

Tottenham meanwhile moved up to third as they came from behind to beat 19th placed Reading 3-1. Emmanuel Adebayor got the winner before Clint Dempsey doubled the advantage after Pavel Pogrebnyak's fourth-minute opener was levelled by Michael Dawson.

Aston Villa, having lost three games in succession by an aggregate score of 15-0, were denied a win at Swansea City by a 90th minute Danny Graham equaliser. The Swans had lead through Wayne Routledge but Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke replied for the visitors in the 2-2 draw.

Down south, West Ham got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory against Norwich City through the trusted Mark Noble's penalty prowess and a Joey O'Brien winner. Russell Martin replied with a late consolation for the Canaries.

And in the earlier kick-off Fulham won only their second away match of the season thanks to goals from Dimitar Berbatov and Alex Kacaniklic. Romelu Lukaku's effort was sandwiched in between the away team's goals.
