Owen Hits Back At Twitter Trolls

Michael Owen posted a picture of his trophy cabinet on New Year's Day in a retort to Twitter trolls.

The Stoke City striker had previously tweeted: "Tough game today and not many teams get anything away at Man City. Shame our 10 game unbeaten run in the Premier League is over. #Stoke"

Tweeters predictably latched on to Owen's comments since he has made just four substitute appearances for the Potters all season. Jibes including his benchwarming prowess and injury record.

Owen retorted: "New Year but things never change. About 100 replies to my last tweet so far and every single one is abusive. What a lovely world we live in."

Eventually he showed off his glittering trophy cabinet, featuring the 1998 PFA Young Player of the Year, 2001 Ballon d'Or and medals won with Liverpool and Manchester United, including two League Cups, an FA Cup, a Uefa Cup and a Premier League.

Owen on the bench... again

Owen, on the bench against Southampton at the weekend, was not part of Stoke's matchday squad at the Etihad Stadium in their 3-0 defeat.
