Futuristic Aeroscraft Blimp-Plane Moves For The First Time (VIDEO)

WATCH: Gigantic 'Aeroscraft' Blimp Moves For The First Time

An enormous, futuristic craft designed to be somewhere between a blimp and a plane has moved for the first time.

The Aeroscraft has been described as "the beginning of a vertical global transportation solution for perhaps the next 100 years".

Built to transport heavy cargo to areas without airports or runways, it is capable of vertical takeoff and landing, and has a rigid structure.

Currently the helium-filled craft can lift 66 tons, at a third of the fuel consumption of traditional vehicles.

It will enter full flight testing in the next 60 days, after which Aeros plans to build an even bigger version with the capacity to transport massive amounts of material.

The craft moves slowly relative to aeroplanes, but the tech blogs have already come up with ideas for "land cruises" over the world's greatest landmarks.
