'Coronation Street' Actress Sophiya Haque Dies Aged 41

A former 'Coronation Street' barmaid has died.

Sophiya Haque, who played Poppy Morales on the ITV soap, passed away peacefully in her sleep at a London hospital in the early hours of this morning, The Evening Standard reports.

The 41-year-old fell ill just before Christmas and was told just days ago that she had cancer.

Her agent Oliver Thomson told the Standard: “Sophiya was a wonderful actress, a wonderful client but so much more than that a wonderful friend. She was adored by everyone she worked with and will be deeply missed.”

She was currently performing the role of Sylvia in West End show 'Privates on Parade' for the Michael Grandage Company.

Messages of condolence were posted on the company's Twitter account:
