UK Weather: Readers Send In Snow Pictures

Heavy Snow Falls Across UK (PICTURES)

While many in the South East wondered what all the fuss was about - and why train companies were already cancelling services when no snow had yet fallen - much of the UK did wake up on Friday to a blanket of snow, in some areas more than three or four inches deep.

Thousands of school children will be enjoying their first day off since term began a couple of weeks ago as hundreds of school closed for the day with Wales, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Norfolk and Gloucestershire particularly affected.

Much of the country is enjoying the first winter wonderland of the year

Whether or not they face the wrath of the local bobby after one police force's recent ASBO warning about snowballs is unclear, but here at HuffPost UK we're pretty certain the youngsters will find plenty of willing playmates to lob snowballs, build snowmen and even get the sledges out.

And if you do, don't forget to send us the photos via Twitter at @HuffPostUKPics. In the meantime, here are some images from Friday's early birds.
