Pope Launches Latin Twitter Account With First Tweet In Ancient Language

Pope Launches Latin Twitter Account

Pope Benedict has tweeted in Latin for the first time on Sunday, using an ancient language which Vatican officials claim is perfect for Twitter.

The tweet read: "Orare semper, iustitiam factitare, amare probitatem, humiles Secum ambulare."

This translates as "pray constantly, do justice, love goodness and walk humbly with Him."

The new Latin account reflects Pope Benedict's desire to revive the language. In November last year he set up a new department to study and promote the tongue.

The Pope first took to Twitter just over a month ago tweeting in seven languages.

His biggest following is on his English account which has nearly one and a half million followers.

His first tweet asked: "What does the Lord ask of us as we work for Christian unity?"

He answered with: "To pray constantly, do justice, love goodness, and walk humbly with Him."
