President Barack Obama's second term in office begins today with a major public celebration in Washington DC.
The 44th president of the United States will take the public oath of office at 16.55 GMT. Obama was officially sworn in yesterday, as under American law presidents have to take office on 20 January which this year fell on a Sunday.
During a quiet ceremony in the Blue Room of the White House, Obama took the official oath of office at approximately 11:55 a.m. The president's family attended, along with several members of the media.

Upon completing the swearing in, Obama hugged his family members and said to his daughter, Sasha, "I did it."
