Jimmy Kebé, Reading Forward, Makes Newcastle Twitter Transfer Joke

Jimmy Kebé's Twitter Transfer Joke

Jimmy Boubou Kébé not only has a great name but a great sense of humour, as he posted a Twitter transfer joke he was signing for Newcastle United.

The Reading forward told his followers and the Twitteratti he was en route to St James's Park to sign a four-year contract. This latest act of online 'candour' came after Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran said on Tuesday he would be joining Newcastle "tomorrow". He still hasn't joined them.

Eleven minutes later however and the official Reading account pulled the rug from beneath the media's feet to clarify Kébé's tweet was a joke. That they did it to the tune of Sloop John B almost ruined the originality of the French-born Mali international's effort.

And Kébé's nationality was why it was so believable. Newcastle signed Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa this week, making him the eighth Frenchman at the club, with Gouffran likely to follow. Unless he beat Kébeé to the punch and has not confirmed he is on a wind up as well.

"If you're french and play football u just pop in to Newcastle and sign a contract," Kébé dryly mused.

Reading poured scorn on the story so quickly Sky Sports News' yellow ticker did not announce the news as 'breaking'.
