Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards Wins Celeb Diving Competition Splash!

Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards wins ITV's celebrity diving competition Splash!

Veteran Olympian Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards has won ITV's celebrity diving competition 'Splash!'

His triumph comes 25 years after he shot to fame with the world's worst Olympic ski jump at the winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada.

He knocked actor Jake Canuso into second place and Linda Barker, of the BBC's 'Changing Rooms', into third.

The Eagle landed perfectly with his first dive and taking a maximum 30 points for the two-and-a-half somersault from the 10 metre board.

It had not been an easy week for Edwards who lost his confidence in training with a series of painful belly and back flops.

But with his game face on and after his flawless showing, celebrity judge Jo Brand told him: "You just need to master hang gliding and you could be the next Milk Tray man."

Andy Banks, who guided the career of Olympic bronze winner Tom Daley, the participants' mentor, told him: "That was more than special - you nailed it."

More was to come from Eddie with his final attempt - an inward one and a half pike synchronised dive with tiny-trunked Daley.

The judges loved it scoring him 29 out of 30 and taking his total to 59 out of 60.

Tousle-haired Barker, 51, wearing a fetching pink bikini and "doing it for the girls", pushed the 49-year-old close.

As did muscle-bound Canuso who, for his first dive, performed a tough handstand off the 10-metre board.
