Picture Of The Day: Etch A Sketch Advert In Honour Of Its Inventor André Cassagnes

LOOK: Lovely, Sad Etch A Sketch Advert In Honour Of Its Inventor

Following the news that the inventor of the Etch A Sketch, André Cassagnes, had passed away at the age of 86, the manufacturers of the much-loved children's toy have produced an advert in his honour.

And we have to admit it brought a wry, sad smile to our face:

Cassagnes came up with the idea for the Etch A Sketch in the 1950s, while he was working as an electrician in France, and the toy first went on sale in 1960. In 1998, it was inducted into America's National Toy Hall of Fame.

"Etch A Sketch has brought much success to the Ohio Art Company, and we will be eternally grateful to André for that," said the company's president Larry Killgallon. "His invention brought joy to so many over such a long period of time."
