Penguins, quite rightly, became the superstars of the small screen last night as TV director John Downer did for them for what he previously achieved for polar bears - infiltrated their world with hidden cameras, and made you realise how akin it is to ours.

Episode 1 of this 3-part series followed these comical but majestic birds as they made haste to their breeding grounds to engage in the ritual that was both laugh-out-loud and moving - with one bird-brain even getting a bit confused when faced with one of the penguin robots sneakily placed to capture this wonderful footage.
