BRITS 2013: One Direction Become First Winners Of New Award For Global Success

BRITS 2013: A Brand New Award, Just For One Direction?

One Direction delighted their fans by picking up a brand new award at the Brits 2013, held in London on Wednesday evening.

The five boys, who've by all measure, had an incredible success over the past year, were in the audience to become the first winners of an award recognising global success.

The band had been nominated in the Best British Group category, where they were pipped by Mumford & Sons, but it seemed the Brits Voting Committee were keen to give the popular quintet something to take home with them. And this category was an easy win for them.

Louis first took the microphone to thank the band's "incredible" fans, and added, "this really is mind-blowing."thanked

Then it was Liam's turn, and he remembered to thank Simon Cowell for all his efforts - while Cowell continued to chew gum contentedly in the audience - as well as give a shout-out to the boys' parents.

Earlier in the evening, One Direction had made their first stage TV performance in the UK for a while, performing their number one single 'One Way Or Another, the Blondie song they've covered for this year's Comic Relief.

Harry Styles weathered with grace a countless number of jokes about which elder lady he would be escorting home. And he remembered to smile and clap when his recent ex, Taylor Swift, took to the stage.
