OSCARS 2013: Jennifer Lawrence Trips Up For Best Actress, Daniel Day-Lewis Is A Hoot

Jennifer Lawrence was in such a rush to collect her Best Actress Oscar, she ended up sprawled across the steps on the way up to the stage.

When she finally arrived at the podium, she looked bashful and told the audience on their feet, "You lot are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell, and that's embarrassing."

Jennifer Lawrence didn't make it to the podium in 100% seamless fashion, but she got there

The actress, who won her award for her role in 'Silver Linings Playbook' opposite Bradley Cooper, also nominated, beat a strong field, including the oldest-ever nominated actress Emmanuelle Riva (86 today, for 'Amour') and Quvenzhane Wallis (now 9, for 'Beasts of the Southern Wild').

In the Best Leading Actor category, it came as no surprise to hear Daniel Day-Lewis's name, in fact presenter Meryl Streep didn't even appear to open the envelope.

What was more unexpected was his jaunty banter at the podium, and delight in tickling the audience with his comments - trust him to get that perfectly pitched too.

He told them that before they'd settled on their roles, he'd been committed to play Margaret Thatcher (in the role that earned Streep her Oscar last year), and "Meryl was Steven's first choice for Lincoln. I'd like to see that version."

In reference to the musical theme of the night, he added, " I had to persuade Steven not to do it as a musical."

The actor, famous for his beyond Method approach and who has now made history by winning three Best Leading Actor Oscars (also for 'My Left Foot' and 'There Will Be Blood'), also made a witty tribute to his wife Rebecca Miller...

"Since we got married 16 years ago, my wife Rebecca has had to live with some very strange men. Fortunately, she's the versatile one in the family."

Ben Affleck was more emotional when his film 'Argo' was named Best Picture by Michelle Obama, and singer Adele also teared up when she won her gong for Best Original Song.
