Retired Policeman Found Shot Dead At A House In Devizes, Wiltshire

Retired Police Inspector Found Shot Dead At Home With His Partner

A man found shot dead alongside his female partner was a retired police inspector of 30 years' service, a detective has said.

The pair were found dead at a property in Wiltshire on Saturday morning after neighbours alerted the police having heard gunshots.

On Sunday, Detective Chief Inspector Ian Saunders said the man retired about five or six years ago.

He was named locally as Bill Dowling, and his partner Vicky.

The bodies were discovered at a home on the Moonrakers Estate in Devizes with apparent gunshot wounds, Wiltshire Police confirmed.

A spokesman said: "We can confirm that at shortly before 11am on Saturday, March 2, officers were called to a property at Moonrakers Estate, Devizes.

"On arrival the bodies of a man and a woman were found. An investigation into the circumstances of their deaths is under way.

"This is an isolated incident and we have no reason to believe that anyone else is at risk."

Cordons have been placed around the scene as investigators continue their enquiries.

The spokesman said a post-mortem examination was still to take place, but that both victims appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds.
