EXCLUSIVE: 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' Musical Writers Explain How They Brought Roald Dahl's Book To Life

EXCLUSIVE: Charlie's Chocolate Factory Unwrapped

Roald Dahl’s 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' will be brought to life this Summer as Sam Mendes opens his brand new musical in London’s West End.

In the video above, which expands on our recent exclusive chat with Sam Mendes, Marc Shaiman, the musical’s composer, and lyricist Scott Wittman (Grammy® winners for 'Hairspray', 'Smash'), as well as award-winning playwright and adaptor David Greig ('The Bacchae', 'Tintin In Tibet') fill us in on some of their work around the forthcoming musical.

Here, just in case you need reminding, is the outline of the story:

When Charlie wins a golden ticket to the weird and wonderful Wonka Chocolate Factory, it’s the chance of a lifetime to feast on the sweets he’s always dreamed of. But, beyond the gates astonishment awaits, as down the sugary corridors, and amongst the incredible edible delights, the five lucky winners discover not everything is as sweet as it seems.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opens for previews 18 May 2013 and is open for booking now. Click here for tickets.
