Former 'Downton Abbey' heartthrob Dan Stevens has stepped out of the shadow of his character Matthew Crawley with an edgy new look.

The actor debuted his new dark hair, facial hair and skinny frame at the GLAAD Media Awards In New York.

Stevens reportedly left his golden locks behind after the Season 3 Christmas special. And it's claimed he lost weight to star in upcoming movie 'A Walk Among the Tombstones' - based on the novel by Lawrence Block - alongside Liam Neeson and Boyd Holbrook.

However, as this picture from 2008 shows, Stevens hasn't always had blonde hair...

Ex-'EastEnder' Nigel Harman and 'Black Mirror' star Tom Cullen will be joining the regulars when the ITV period drama returns for it's fourth series in the autumn.
