Lionel Messi Vomits As Argentina Suffer In Bolivian Altitude (PICTURES)

Bolivia 1-1 Argentina

Argentina could only manage a 1-1 draw in Bolivia as players suffered playing at a high altitude, with Lionel Messi reportedly being sick on the pitch.

Nearly 4,000 metres above sea level, the La Paz atmosphere apparently caused the Barcelona forward to throw up while Real Madrid winger Angel di María required the aid of an oxygen mask. Javier Mascherano tweeted a picture after the match which also showed Paris Saint-Germain attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi inhaling through an oxygen mask.

Bolivia went ahead through Marcelo Martins in the 25th minute when he nodded past Sergio Romero before Ever Banega equalised for Argentina.

Despite the draw, the Argentines top the Conmebol qualifying group in South America, four points ahead of Ecuador, who have a game in hand.

Bolivia's hopes of reaching Brazil have all but extinguished as they lie second from last in the table.
