'X Factor' Star Lucy Spraggan Signs Record Deal With Columbia

Lucy Spraggan Gets Signed

Former 'X Factor' star Lucy Spraggan has signed a recording contract with Columbia Records.

The singer-songwriter earned a legion of new fans when she sang her self-penned track ‘Last Night‘ on the ITV reality show, but already had a loyal fan base prior to the competition from gigging around the UK.

'Last Night' now has over 20 million views on YouTube, making her an enticing act for record companies to snap up.

Spraggan said in a statement: "I'm really excited to be working with Columbia, it is such a respected label with an incredible heritage. To be signed to the company who have worked with great icons like Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen and the newer generation of artists like Calvin Harris and Rita Ora is amazing - I can't wait!"

The 21-year-old from Sheffield has been working on her debut album, set for release later this year, since quitting the 'X Factor' due to illness in November.

After leaving the show, where she was mentored by Tulisa, she said in a statement: "I would like to express my thanks to everyone who has supported me. There is no way that this setback will prevent me from fulfilling my ambition.

"You'll be hearing from me again very soon."

Co-President of Columbia, Alison Donald, said: “Lucy is a refreshingly honest and naturally gifted storyteller who walks to the beat of her own drum. Her song-writing very much fits in with the tradition and artistry of the Columbia ethos and we are absolutely delighted to have her onboard.”

Spraggan will embark on a sold out headline tour of the UK in April, starting in Bristol. Six new dates have now been added.
