Princess Diana 'Sneaked Into Gay Bar Dressed As Man' With Kenny Everett, Freddie Mercury, Remembers Cleo Rocos

Princess Diana 'Sneaked Into Gay Bar Dressed As Man'

Princess Diana once sneaked into a gay London bar disguised as a man, it has emerged.

Kenny Everett's friend and co-star Cleo Rocos has revealed that the royal icon even got served at the bar without being recognised, due to her camouflage of big jacket and aviator sunglasses.

Princess Diana was thrilled to make it unrecognised to the bar in the Royal Vauxhall Tavern

In her book, The Power of Positive Drinking, Rocos tells how the evening at London's Royal Vauxhall Tavern took place after the princess had spent the afternoon drinking champagne with Everett, Rocos and Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

When Diana learned their plans for the evening, Everett had tried to dissuade her from coming, saying, "It’s full of hairy gay men. Sometimes there are fights outside."

The princess was fond of sporting a tuxedo

But, true to form, Mr Mercury stepped in, saying, "Let the girl have some fun."

And so it proved.

The outing, which would have got the press into an unprecedented frenzy had it come to light, is said to have taken place in 1988, when the Prince and Princess of Wales were still married, but rumours about the state of their relationship were already beginning to swirl. They later separated in 1992, going on to divorce in 1996.

Mercury died in 1991, Everett in 1995, and the princess was killed in Paris in 1997.
