Margaret Thatcher Dead: Former PM's 'Ceremonial' Funeral To Match Princess Diana's

Baroness Thatcher will receive a ceremonial funeral with military honours at St Paul's Cathedral, Downing Street said today.

A statement released on Monday afternoon by No.10 said: "A wide and diverse range of people and groups with connections to Lady Thatcher will be invited. The service will be followed by a private cremation. All the arrangements being put in place are in line with wishes of Lady Thatcher’s family. Further details will be published over the coming days."

Downing Street said Thatcher would be accorded the same status of funeral as the Queen Mother and Princess Diana, but will not lie in state, in accordance with her own wishes.

Thatcher has died today at the age of 87 following a stroke.

In 2011 it was reported the Thatcher approved plans for a concert orchestra to play works by Edward Elgar as well as a procession from Westminster to St Pauls.

On Monday David Cameron, who is cut short his trip to visit European leaders, said: "It was with great sadness that I learned of Lady Thatcher's death. We've lost a great leader, a great prime minister and a great Briton."
