Margaret Thatcher Dies: Rewatch Her 'Yes, Minister' Sketch (VIDEO)

WATCH: Thatcher's 'Yes, Minister' Sketch

The combination of 'Margaret Thatcher' and 'comedy' is most likely to make you think of her 'Spitting Image' puppet or Ben Elton's tirades against "Mrs Thatch".

But the former Prime Minister - who has passed away at the age of 87 - once wrote a comedy sketch herself. No, really.

It was for her favourite show, 'Yes, Minister', which she once praised for "its clearly-observed portrayal of what goes on in the corridors of power", telling the Daily Telegraph that it "has given me hours of pure joy".

Thatcher wrote the sketch in honour of the show being presented with an award from Mary Whitehouse's National Viewers' And Listeners' Association (you can spot Whitehouse at the back of this video, in fact) - and of course, she made sure that it co-starred herself. As herself.

Click play on the video above to enjoy not just the performance by Paul Eddington, Nigel Hawthorne and Margaret Thatcher - but also an introduction from a rather dashing-looking newsreader called John Humphries. Whatever happened to him?
