'Broadchurch' Theme Music Is 'So Close' By Ólafur Arnalds, Vocals By Arnór Dan - So Who Are They?

The Talents Behind The Haunting 'Broadchurch' Theme Music

Of the many ingredients that have made 'Broadchurch' one of this country's most stirring detective small screen offerings in a long while, one of the undoubted successes is the music that swishes us into the beachscape of Danny Latimer's departing, and swishes us back out into another week of wondering.

The theme to the series sits somewhere between the dulcet tones of 'Silent Witness' and the Danish twangs that set the eerie atmosphere of 'The Bridge' - which is fitting, considering the subject matter of ITV's increasingly involving 'Broadchurch' - so who ARE the talents behind these sounds? The answer is that the composer is one Ólafur Arnalds, an Icelandic instrumentalist and composer who "mixes strings and piano with loops and edgy beats crossing-over from ambient/electronic to pop" (thankyou, Wiki) and the vocalist is Arnor Dan, or to give him his full Icelandic name, Arnór Dan Arnársson,

In his day job, Arnor Dan is the front man with band Agent Fresco - a group with "polyrythmic oddtime rock with jazz and funk influence".

Agent Fresco won the gong for Best New Band at 2011 equivalent of the Icelandic Grammies (yes, they exist!) and released their debut album in 2011, but so far, it's been with Olafur Arnalds that Arnor Dan has caught the ear. Here they are again in duet...

And I doubt it will be too long before the theme to 'Broadchurch' becomes easily available, too.
