Amy Winehouse To Be Subject Of Documentary Film From 'Senna' Director Asif Kapadia

Amy Winehouse To Get The 'Senna' Treatment From Same Director?

The many fans of the hit documentary film 'Senna' will already know that director Asif Kapadia is capable of shining a light on a subject, and making it appealing, moving and memorable for those beyond the traditional fanbase.

Having brought the world of motor-racing and its tragic, charismatic totem thrillingly to the screen two years ago, Kapadia is hoping to have the same success with his next confirmed feature, a film about late star Amy Winehouse.

Amy Winehouse died in 2011, after a short but luminous musical career

"This is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few films can," Kapadia and his producer James Gay-Rees said in a statement.

"Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone's attention; she wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell.

"But tragically Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious lifestyle.

"As a society we celebrated her huge success but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us."

The film is reported to feature much previously unseen archive footage of the tragic singer.

Kapadia sat through thousands of hours of motor-racing footage to bring 'Senna' to the screen, for which he was rewarded with BAFTA Awards for Best Documentary and Best Editing in 2012.
