Justin Timberlake has signed up to a biopic about Casablanca founder Neil Bogart.

Neil's son Timothy Scott Bogart is writing the screenplay and the film is being produced by Mark Damon, who was a friend of the music legend.

Spinning Gold is a rags to riches tale of a poor boy from Brooklyn who went on to define the music of his generation.

Neil died at 39 but had already launched the careers of Curtis Mayfield, Gladys Knight, KISS, Donna Summer and the Village People.

Timothy said: "For over 30 years, my father's story has been the source of intense fascination.

"The wait to finally tell the story had always been about partnering with the right person to play him - and the wait ended the first time Justin and I ever met."

The project will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Cannes Film Market, where The Social Network actor Justin will also co-host a private party for the film.

He was due to appear in Cannes anyway for the worldwide premiere of Joel and Ethan Coen's Inside Lleweyn Davis, which he stars in with Carey Mulligan.
