'Star Trek Into Darkness' star Benedict Cumberbatch has given his best "beam me up, Scotty" impression - in a French accent.

The actor at first refused the interviewer's request for him to perform the famous line, saying, "that's not on my CV, they should have told you."

But after some gentle persuasion, he performed the command, ordinarily given by Captain Kirk, in a French accent.

Cumberbatch plays mysterious villain John Harrison in JJ Abrams' 'Star Trek Into Darkness'.

The 'Sherlock' star has admitted that when he first agreed to take on the role, he didn't know everything about the character.

"I had a very good pitch from J.J. on the phone," he told MTV News at the film's London premiere. "I didn't have time to read the whole script before I began."
