'SOS Parachute' Could Be The Ultimate Escape Route From Skyscrapers

An inventor has demonstrated a new parachute which can open after just 100 feet, and could be used as a last-ditch escape option for people stuck on skyscrapers during a catastrophe.

The 'SOS Parachute' by Panama inventor Morris Shahbazi can open more quickly, at lower heights, than most other similar devices.

It's now been through 13 tests, and all have functioned properly. Shahbazi said he was inspired by the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, where hundreds of people were left stranded atop the burning buildings.

According to the Daily Mail, he is now looking at taking his invention overseas, including to London. But others have cautioned that problems remain with the idea, including the role of wind at high altitudes, let alone the possibility of dozens of people attempting to use and open their chutes at once.
