Engagement Ring Lights Up When Your Fiancee Is Nearby (VIDEO)

WATCH: Engagement Ring Lights Up When Your Fiancee Is Nearby

An American engineer has painstakingly developed an engagement ring which lights up when your fiancee is nearby.

The amazing project - named 'Project Longhaul' - took Ben Kokes, who is 36, more than five months to build.

He told MailOnline that the first version requires the partner to wear an armband, which houses an induced alternating magnetic. When it's within 4 inches of the ring, tiny LED lights inside the device light up.

Kokes now planes to develop the idea further, building a permanent wedding ring with the same functionality.

"Once upon a time, a boy met a girl," he wrote on his website.

"Then a short amount of time later, the boy decided to design and build a ring for the girl, because doing things in the most complicated way possible is just what he does to show the love. This is that story."

Kokes details the incredible amount of work that went into designing the unique piece of jewellery, and the many design problems he encountered on the way.

Luckily, after all that his partner did indeed say yes.
