Mohammad Qataa, 15, Syrian 'Atheist' Reportedly Shot By Rebels (PICTURES)

PICTURED: Teenage Syrian 'Atheist' Reportedly Shot By Rebels

This is the 15-year-old boy who was publicly executed by Islamist rebel militia in Syria, apparently for the crime of blasphemy.

Mohammad Qataa was shot in the neck and face a day after being kidnapped by an Islamist group in Aleppo, called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, once previously known as the Nusra Front.

Stills of Qataa holding an unidentified little boy were broadcast on YouTube by the Aleppo Media Centre.

A further image of the teenager (forefront wearing a black vest) attending a protest in Aleppo was posted on Facebook by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

Horrific photos of the coffee vendor with a bloodied mouth and his jaw blown off, along with bullet wounds on his neck are also circulating.

In a Facebook post, the SOHR said: “All human rights abuses need to be exposed, and all the murderers of the Syrian people must be brought to justice.”

It adds the boy had reportedly been arguing with a customer about the existence of God, and was hear to say: “Even if the Prophet Mohammad returns, I will not become a believer,” leading to speculation he was declaring himself to be an atheist.

But other sources suggested that the comment was misheard, and that the boy was actually arguing with another customer over giving him a free coffee, saying "Even if the Prophet returns, I will not give you a free coffee."

Qataa was reportedly abducted and tortured for 24 hours, before being dragged into the middle of a crowded street and executed in front of his mother. Eyewitness told the SOHR they did not believe the men were Syrian.

The SOHR said in a statement: "People gathered around him and a member of the fighting brigade said: 'Generous citizens of Aleppo, disbelieving in God is polytheism and cursing the prophet is a polytheism. Whoever curses even once will be punished like this'.

"He then fired two bullets from an automatic rifle in view of the crowd and in front of the boy's mother and father, and got into a car and left."

"The observatory cannot ignore these crimes, which only serve the enemies of the revolution and the enemies of humanity," SOHR founder Rami Abdulrahman said.
