Transfer Talk: Arsenal Close To Signing Gonzalo Higuaín

Arsenal Close To Higuaín Capture

Arsenal could finally seal their first signing of the summer, with Gonzalo Higuaín set to join the Gunners in a £22 million deal.

The Telegraph say Higuaín has agreed a £130,000 a week contract and will become an Arsenal player by the end of the week.

In Higuaín, Arsenal will be getting an established striker rather than having to play Theo Walcott up front. Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski are effectively squad players at best and Arsène Wenger has placed his faith in Higuaín, despite a rather miserable final season with Real Madrid.

Higuaín will leave Madrid after six years

A selfless striker, Higuaín's finishing can however be erratic and he is particularly unreliable when one-on-one. Arsenal have shown some gumption in signing someone from Madrid rather than a relegated German club, though.

Rafael Benítez, somewhat ambitiously, wants to replace Edinson Cavani with Luis Suárez at Napoli, say the Mirror.

Should Cavani go for the £54m buy-out clause the Neapolitans inserted into his contract then Benítez would be able to afford to bring Suárez to Naples. Although Napoli finished second in Serie A and can offer the Uruguayan Champions League football, the Uruguayan might hold out for a bigger club.

Juventus, who finished as champions ahead of Napoli, have already added Fernando Llorente to their squad and are looking to Manchester City to bolster their Champions League assault, rather ironically.

Carlos Tévez has turned the Old Lady's head and the Serie A champions are also interested in Aleksandar Kolarov, claim the Mail.

Would Juve really want him?

Steve Bruce has agreed a £2.25m deal to take Birmingham defender Curtis Davies to Hull City and is also interested in signing Leicester's 26-year-old goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. That would reunite Schmeichel Junior with Bruce Junior, 20 years after they enjoyed a kick-about in the Old Trafford tunnel.

Bruce could also offer Carlton Cole a chance to rescue his Premier League career, add the Sun. The former West Ham striker is a free agent.

The redtop also writes that Roberto Martínez wants to bring Birmingham's Nathan Redmond to Everton in a £3m deal.

And another England Under-21 Championship winger to have caught the eye is Thomas Ince, who Cardiff are willing to pay £8m for to bring up to the Premier League, according to the Mail.
