A wing walker and pilot have been killed when an air show stunt went horrifically wrong.

Jane Wicker was sat on the wing of the 450 HP Stearman bi-plane as it flew past the crowd before appearing to stall and plummet to the ground.

No spectators were hurt at the Vectren Dayton Air Show.

Ian Hoyt, 20, was in the crowd taking photos of the plane at the time of the crash.

He told Associated Press: "Then I realized they were too low and too slow. And before I knew it, they hit the ground.

"I'm still shaking."

The dead pilot has yet to be named.

According to her website, Wicker had been wing-walking since 1990, performing alongside her regular job as a budget analyst for the Federal Aviation Administration.

An entry on the site says: "What you see us do out there is after an enormous amount of practice and fine tuning, not to mention the airplane goes through microscopic care. It is a managed risk and that is what keeps us alive."
