Beauty And The Bride: How To Wear A Red Lip On Your Wedding Day

If you're the type of girl who's all about channeling siren-style glamour on her big day, the chances are you're considering a gloriously punchy red lip. It's got drama, it's confident and it's a classic beauty trick that will just add to your deliriously happy smile in the pictures.

But here's the thing, when it comes to red lipstick as part of your wedding day beauty, you really have to be careful. You want to be a Fifties-style star, not a Big Fat Gypsy Weddings case study and trust us, the line you tread here is remarkably fine.

Sarah Brock, award winning make-up artist and cover make-up artist for Brides magazine, says it's all about balance. "If you choose to go for red lipstick the most important thing you can do is keep the rest of your make up neutral. If you have dark eyes and bright cheeks, the whole thing will look a bit dolly."

She also suggests investing time in finding the right red. "It's important to try on several shades," she says. "The red you wear on a night out might look very, very bright against a very white wedding gown. I would suggest considering something a little bit more subtle than your usual red."

Lastly, Brock advises brides to think about their whole aesthetic and how a red lip will fit in before committing to scarlet. "Take into account the style of your dress - only a vintage look can carry red and look fantastic. If you're going for a princess gown it will again, look too dolly. A red lip can be beautiful but everything has to be right for it to work."
