Transfer Talk: Manchester City Up Stevan Jovetić Pursuit

City Step Up Jovetić Pursuit

Manuel Pellegrini admitted yesterday a striker was a priority for Manchester City and Stevan Jovetić has emerged as the latest forward to be linked with the Citizens.

Following Carlos Tévez's sale to Juventus, City boast only Sergio Agüero and Edin Džeko up front. Plenty of City supporters remain keen for Džeko to follow Tévez out of the club, despite his knack for vital goals, but Pellegrini seems happy to keep the Bosnia and Herzegovina frontman.

Jovetić, who has been on Arsenal's radar for over a year, would offer a different dimension up front away from Džeko's battering ram role and the slick Agüero.

Jovetić played against England in March

The Mirror claim he has been offered a five-year deal worth £80,000 per week, although his buy-out clause at Fiorentina is reportedly £28 million.

Martin Lipton adds Manchester United made a last-ditch effort to prise the Montenegrin away from the Viola.

The Star write City will also make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose situation at Real Madrid continues to be monitored by United.

Ronaldo's first season in Madrid came under Pellegrini's management before he was sacked.

The same paper claims Arsenal will miss out on QPR goalkeeper Júlio César, who will return to Italy and to Napoli, apparently.

Another redtop, the Sun, are also bearers of bad news for Gooners, as they claim Real Madrid are about to hijack Arsenal's bid to sign Luis Suárez. Maybe it's good news, after all.

Yet the Mail are full of optimism. For Arsenal are working on a deal to bring Cesc Fàbregas back to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Cesc lies back and thinks of Arsenal... Possibly

Southampton will finally sign Victor Wanyama from Celtic, according to the Guardian.

The Saints agreed a £12m fee with the Bhoys last month but agent issues prevented the Kenyan from joining the club earlier.

Chelsea will sell either Demba Ba or Fernando Torres if they bring in Wayne Rooney, according to the Independent.

From red to blue?

Although it is feasible both will go should the Croxteth striker head from north to south, what with them being relics of the Ancelotti and Benítez eras. José Mourinho has form for belittling both coaches.

And Paulinho's arrival has pushed Scott Parker out in the cold at Tottenham, and so keen are QPR to bring the Englishman to Loftus Road that chairman Tony Fernandes is overseeing the deal, say the Times.
