Oscars 2013: What The Stars Said On The Red Carpet

They came, they posed, they chatted. But what did stars attending the Oscars 2013 say? Before the awards started, they were on the red carpet and chatting away those pre-ceremony nerves.

Eddie Redmayne - who would later be performing with the cast of Les Miserables on stage - was wearing velvet loafers embossed with skulls ("it's my attempt to be edgy", he said) and confided that when it comes to doing another musical, he'd "never say never". "I like to shake it up," he added. "The next thing I'm doing is a sci-fi piece."

Amy Adams, in Oscar De La Renta, said it took "two or three hours" to get ready and she "never gets used to the red carpet" and revealed she has got to know the other nominees in the Best Actress category throughout awards season. "I've fallen in love with Sally Field and I've known Anne Hathaway for years," she said.

Wearing French couturier Alexis Mabille and talking about her forthcoming role in Star Trek 2 and her past role in Avatar, Zoe Saldana joked "human beings are boring".

Talking about her Armani Prive dress, Jessica Chastain said: "This is going back to old Hollywood glamour - it's a happy birthday Mr President kind of dress." When asked if she would like to do a musical, she replied: "Of course. I can sing - I'm an actor who can sing but not a singer."

Octavia Spencer also talked about her Tadashi Shojii dress, saying she always wears his designs because he "knows how to cut for the fuller figured girl".

Unbelievably, the Oscars 2013 is Joseph Gordon-Levitt's first time at the the awards and he will be presenting as well as performing in the Seth MacFarlane directed opening sequence. He revealed he has just finished filming Sin City 2 with Robert Rodriguez who he loved working with. "He's a delightful human being - he's got so much creativity pouring out of him," he said.

Lastly, youngest nominee ever Quvenzhane Willis said she was "excited" to be at the Oscars but wasn't going to "blab about it" to her schools friends. Jennifer Hudson's advice for her when they bumped into each other on the red carpet? "Stay humble."
