Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting hit a century in his final first-class innings to give Surrey hope of saving their match against Nottinghamshire.

The 38-year-old, one of the all-time greats, moved from his overnight 41 to 108 not out at lunch on the final day of the LV= County Championship Division One match at the Kia Oval.

That helped Surrey to 282 for five in their second innings but with a lead of just 70, they still had work to do.
