Chelsea 1-3 Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo Silences José Mourinho (PICTURES)

Ronaldo Replies To Mourinho Jibe... With Two Goals

Chelsea manager José Mourinho shrugged off defeat to his former club Real Madrid as "not a drama" and admits he was pleased to see his side make mistakes in the match as it means they can now work on correcting them ahead of the new season.

Chelsea slumped to their first defeat of pre-season as Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice to earn Madrid a 3-1 win in the International Champions Cup final in Miami.

The Portugal international's first goal - a trademark swerving free-kick - restored Madrid's lead after Marcelo's opener had been swiftly cancelled out by Ramires in the first half, and his second - a fierce header - sealed victory for Carlo Ancelotti's team.

Mourinho, who left Madrid this summer to return for a second stint at Stamford Bridge, felt his side could have done better for both of Ronaldo's goals but preferred to use that as a positive rather than a negative.

"For the first, we gave away a free-kick in a position where he's happy to have it and then the second goal, I told the players with every cross he likes to try to get into space because he's good in the air," Mourinho was quoted as saying on www.chelseafc.com.

"For me, it's perfect we made mistakes so that we have them to work on.

"As I said last week, we had five victories in pre-season and zero points. Now we have five victories and one defeat, we still have zero points, it's not a drama.

"They play in La Liga, we play in the Premier League, if we meet them in the Champions League and lose it's a different story but a summer tournament is a summer tournament.'"

Chelsea were without David Luíz and Juan Mata for the match because of injury.

Luíz was at the centre of transfer speculation yesterday following reports that Barcelona had made a bid for the 26-year-old, which the Blues are said to have rejected out of hand.

There was no mention of that offer on Chelsea's website but Mourinho did speak about the Brazil international's fitness situation - and that of Mata - ahead of Saturday's friendly with Roma in Washington.

He said: "I don't know if David Luíz and Mata will be back for Roma, they have some small problems, Mata a new one and David Luíz a problem he had in the past, a muscular injury.

"They are working with the physios in Washington instead of travelling here. We'll see if they can join the team and play a little against Roma."
