Google's 'Project Loon' To Be Tested In California Homes

Google's fantastically named "Project Loon" is to take a further step to becoming reality by being tested in California homes.

Project Loon is the essentially the internet behemoth's attempt to get the web to everyone on the planet.

Only instead of using the traditional wires and cables it will use a network of balloons that beam signals to wherever they are needed.

The basic idea of Loon is incredibly simple

If that doesn't sound fantastic enough, these balloons will be steered using nothing more than high-altitude winds.

Google is looking for people in the Central Valley area of California to volunteer to get a Loon antenna installed to test the strength of signal from test balloons.

The test will look to expand on a test carried out on New Zealand’s South Island in June.
